Looking back over 2019…

When you think about the year that’s just gone by, what do you think of? Is it the changes that have happened for good or for worse? Do you think about the achievements you’ve made? Whatever it is that comes to mind, think about how you are going to use those thoughts to make 2020 the best it could possibly be!

For me, 2019 has been a roller coaster of emotions but probably the best year of my life to date. I have finally got to a point in my life where I know who I am, what I want and where I’d like to go (most the time anyways). This has been the year of learning, and I love learning! Learning new skills, new knowledge and learning those things about myself which I didn’t before.

No matter what you’ve done this year, try and think of at least 5 things that made 2019 a good one. It doesn’t matter how small or how big they are, just 5 things that made you happy this year! For example, my top 5 this year

  1. Stepping into a new career
  2. Meeting new friends for life
  3. Travelling to new places
  4. My brother and new sister in law getting married
  5. My eldest brother and sister in law having a baby girl

I love having photos to look back on, mainly as my memory seems to be pretty terrible too, so this year I’m creating a scrapbook. Mainly filling it with photos and little bits and pieces which remind me of events or trips I’ve made over the last year. I don’t think things like this get done enough! Nowadays, everything just get’s uploaded onto facebook or instagram, which of course I am guilty of. But there are no hard copies or thought gone into printing an album for example like our parents done.

Reflecting over the year

Reflecting on the bad things that happened is also hugely important. Learning from those times when things weren’t always so good. I’m not saying that I haven’t struggled this year, but I like to try and keep with the positives as much as possible. Which is where I have a downfall, I try and ignore the bad things sometimes which mentally, isn’t always good. Reflecting on the things that have effected you is a big part of your growing experience.

From January – June I was based in a classroom, Monday – Friday like any other job, which in itself was hard after being self employed and working random hours for so many years. The learning experience was intense, we had so much to learn in such little time, there was so much coursework, exams and revision which needed to happen. Bearing in mind I haven’t been in a school learning environment since 2011! I love learning new things and don’t get me wrong I loved it, but naturally it was pretty stressful! So much so, that I developed a stress rash which I didn’t even realise was a thing!

Look back at situations that you have been in and how you have coped, would you have changed any of it? How did you deal with it and what have you learned from that situation? I’m not saying that you should regret anything you’ve done! I don’t believe that at all! But, I do think you should look at everything and learn from it, to better yourself.

Setting yourself up for 2020!

No matter what happened this year, good or bad, it’s the start of a whole new year! It’s not going to be a whole new you let’s be honest, AND I hate that saying. But that’s not to say that you don’t set yourself some goals. It doesn’t have to be something you have to do daily if that’s not achievable. Don’t go setting yourself 10 goals for the year as that’s a lot to keep track of, although if you are feeling adventurous go for it! Do what’s right for you. That is my biggest motto in life, as cliche as it sounds, you do you.

Alrighty, let’s get down to 2020 plans then shall we! I like to set myself some goals, not everyone does and I’m not saying you have to, but personally I like to have something to work towards so here it is…

  1. Journal and stretch daily
  2. Do something each month which scares you
  3. Be true to yourself aka you do you!

Three simple goals which will make such a difference. Some years I’ve set goals which I know aren’t achievable. I’ve set fitness goals which have made me anxious when I haven’t been able to get to the gym. Fitness goals are different to my yearly goals and I can do a whole other post on that if you would like, just comment so I know!

Be true to who you are, what you are about and what you enjoy doing. Otherwise, before you know it, another year will have gone flashing by in seconds.
