Do you think you could complete a Spartan Race?? 5km, 12km and even 22km of muddy trails, barbed wire crawls, 15ft rope climbs, and to finish, a leap of fire? You might be thinking HELL NO!! But let me tell you now, you can do so much more than you think you can. Spartan Sprint (5km) is tough, but, with a little bit of training, it is very achievable for every single one of you out there. Yes…every single one of you!
It doesn’t matter if you’ve run 5 metres or 5 Marathons! There is a challenge for everyone! But let’s talk to you newbies out there who have maybe thought ‘I’d love to be able to do one of those obstacle races!’, well now is your time. The season for OCR (Obstacle Course Racing) is soon upon us! It’s the perfect time to start your training right now. Don’t go thinking that these sort of races are just for men either girls!! 40% of racers are now female!! That’s Girl Power right there!
40% of Spartan racers are women!
This really is a huge inspiration and motivation to all the girls out there who are scared of hitting the weights area in the gym. Spartan isn’t just for the guys. It’s for every woman who wants to grab a pair of running shoes and prove to the world that women are just as strong as men!
Get the whole family involved, mum, dad, brother, sister, even get your grandparents involved, why not?! Children can get in on the action as well, there is a 1.5km Spartan Kids Race available for all the 4-13-year-olds too! There are 6 Spartan Kids races being held at 6 weekends across the country held by Spartan during its 2018 season! It really is for everyone and of all levels of fitness!
With over a million runners in over 30 countries, there really isn’t an excuse for you not to get involved!! Spartan is staging 30 races, including kids events, across the country. That’s 50% up on last year’s programme, which goes to show how OCR is booming in popularity in this country at the moment. With a new location in Kent, the Spartan Sprint (5km), which is starting on Sunday 8th April, if you aren’t in the area have a look for more locations nearer to you! Check out www.spartanrace.uk.
Any fitness level can finish a Spartan Race!
The atmosphere on race day is amazing. You feel like you really are part of a huge family. Everyone supports each other throughout the race. Helping you over obstacles, pulling you out of that muddy puddle and there to congratulate you on the finishing line with a beer. It’s a great community to be a part of. An amazing accomplishment. Just the beginning of a new journey, a fitter journey.
Not only do you get the opportunity to accomplish such an amazing achievement, you get a medal to show off AND you gain a whole new group of crazy friends to race another Spartan with! I really couldn’t recommend it more, honestly. It was amazing!! I will most certainly be doing another one very soon! I’ve actually booked one for October. However, if I can get round to doing one sooner then I shall be!!
Go sign up for the challenge, doesn’t matter who you are, you CAN do it!!
