Want to beat those January blues? It’s understandable that many of us get down this time of year. All the festivities are over, we don’t have much to look forward to other than going back to work, and all the decorations come down which for me is the worst bit, i love Christmas lights! But just because it’s January doesn’t mean we have to let it get us down.
Having things planned for the month or year, things to look forward to, will definitely up your new year spirit. Getting out and about will make such a difference, otherwise the cold dark nights will leave you inside feeling sorry for yourself. Think about where you would like to travel this year, if you have any big birthdays coming up etc! Get things in the diary that you can have a countdown to which will keep you more upbeat!
You finally get to put all those gifts to good use! Even that one you may not have really wanted, give it whirl and it might change your life…it might not but it’ll be fun to see! I loved setting up my new diary for the year and getting properly organised. Switching that work brain back on and getting my life together! Set up that new gadget and be a tech whizz! We have just got an Amazon Echo, which so many people have (comment if you have one too) and it’s great! I mean, we are still working things out on it but we have it pretty much sorted!
Simple things like telling yourself 3 positive things a day will quickly change your mental attitude towards day ahead. If you have had a bad day of travel, or bad day at the office, or that supermarket didn’t have what you wanted in stock, put it all behind you, tell yourself that it’s not the end of the world because, believe it or not, it isn’t. That all might sound quite harsh but we let some silly things ‘ruin’ our day when really it’s not as big as we are making it out to be! One positive thing when you wake up, tell yourself it’s going to be a good day or that you look nice in the outfit you have chosen. One when you finish work, there must have been something you are happy that you finished/started or seen someone you haven’t in a while. Lastly, before you go to sleep. What was the highlight of your day? Before i go to sleep i also like to plan what i’m doing the next day, just because i like being organised, but if this doesn’t help you sleep then do this earlier in the day.
If you are one of these people that HATE their jobs, don’t worry i’ve been there, then think about changing it. What’s the point in working if you don’t like what you do?! I took the huge step from working in a solicitors to becoming a PT and i couldn’t be happier. So please, if you aren’t happy about something in your life, it’s time to change it. Whether thats to do with work, health, your wardrobe or even your house. If it’s making you unhappy then you know what to do. And don’t wait or say you’ll have a look at that tomorrow, do it now before another year has past, because the years go oh so quickly!
Look around you. Right now i want you to just scan around. You are more than likely to be either reading this on your phone or laptop, maybe an iPad, not everyone is as lucky to have those things. Look around and be thankful for what you have. If you are on your way home from work, be thankful for that job and the things it is paying for. If you are laying in bed, appreciate the roof over your head. If you are reading this whilst the dinner is cooking, be thankful you have something to eat and have time to relax for a while. Get my drift? It might sound silly again, but sometimes we forget how lucky we really are and don’t appreciate the bigger picture. I don’t want to sound like i’m preaching but we all need to be reminded of this, i have to do the same. Just stop and actually take in what’s around me and appreciate them.
January is a time, for some reason, we all dread. But, it’s the start of a new chapter in your life. Anything bad that happened last year can be forgotten and left in 2017. Anything good, you can bring it along, it’s all to do with choice. I feel like i maybe have gone a bit off topic in this post, but at the same time i think it’s all relevant to changing your mindset in January and not letting it get to you. Let’s have a good year and grow to be even better!
