I was thinking the other day that i wanted to do a blog post about Kettlebells, but then i thought, i’m sure i’ve already done that!! However, i haven’t! So, funnily enough, here it is.
I’ve been using kettlebells for years, with clients, classes and for my own benefit. They are one of my favourite pieces of equipment to use and i couldn’t rave about them any more! Not only are they a great way to mix up your HIIT workout, they will increase your strength too!
In most gym scenarios, the majority of the machines or exercises you will do are all one motion. What i mean by that, you will either do a leg press away from you, pull a bar towards you or push something away from you. It’s very rare that you will be able to swing something, clean press something, or farmer walk an object at the gym unless they have kettlebells. Now i’m saying these things because in every day life, lifting something from the ground and placing it in a high cupboard is the norm…aka doing a clean and press. Carrying heavy shopping from the car or supermarket…aka farmer walks. Its very much practice for things you will be doing every day. Kettlebells use nearly all the muscles in the body. You need to brace your core and keep your form tight. They are hugely beneficial for everyone. Start light and slowly increase the weight making sure that you have the right technique. If you are unsure, ask a trainer in the gym to check your form and give you some tips, there are also lots and lots of youtube videos if you need some help! Have you seen world strongest man and crossfit?! They all use kettlebells and they are all machines. Literally. Some of the competitions you see for crossfit are just well…indescribable! Have a little search on youtube and you will understand what i mean!
There are SO many different exercises you can do with kettlebells, it’s also something that you can use at home, you don’t even need to go to the gym. It’s so easy to buy these things online nowadays there really is no excuse! Amazon have a HUGE variety of kettle bells but i will link my favourite here.
Next time you are in the gym or when you’ve got your kettlebell at home, give this workout a go!! 3 rounds in total with 60 seconds rest in between rounds, let the sweat commence! Full workout will also be on my youtube video if you want some help!
