So i figured that i haven’t really updated you guys with what it’s like being a sport rep here in Greece, and what i actually do on a daily basis. What my schedule is like, what my team is like and what is expected from guests! So, if you follow me on social media, and my previous blog posts, you will know that i am here in Halkidiki, Greece, as a sport host working for TUI. I arrived in April where the hotel was still being finished and we had 2 weeks to get everything ready, which at the time seemed impossible! But, we smashed it, the hotel opened 1st May, it was daunting and i felt very overwhelmed but my team is amazing and everyone supports each other. It’s now AUGUST!! As if?! It’s safe to say i’ve settled well into my new job role and love everyday. Of course, there are days when i’m exhausted and the thought of doing everything is just too much, but when you see guests getting involved it really does pick you up.
My schedule has changed since i first started, seeing as it’s now peak season, we do more activities and it’s pretty full on to say the least! I thought i would enlighten you guys on what my daily routine consists of…
9am Body Balance
11am Character Pool walk or Hangout (12-15yrs old group)
12pm Aqua Gym
12.45pm Water Polo
3pm Adult tournament so either a swim relay, table tennis or basketball
4pm Les Mills class, either CXWORX, Sh’Bam or Body Combat
5pm Kids Football
5.30pm Adult Football
As you can see, it’s pretty full on as i mentioned, i honestly wouldn’t be able to do this day in day out without my partner in crime, Siobhan, she gets me through she really does!
I can’t lie and say that it’s an easy day. But then i can’t sit here and say i have the hardest day either. Some of the team work a hellllla lot more hours than i do, but i will say, is that as sport hosts we are the most active and have to make sure we are looking after ourselves! Once a week we do a Team day, were it’s Guests V Reps. We play a game of water polo, which so far in the season we have only won once…don’t even get me started on that, (i’m mega competitive if you don’t already know) I think it shows guests my competitive streak too which they don’t always realise. Then in the evening all the team, so guest relations, kids reps, entertainers and sports, all perform in a fun show where it’s just a bit of a laugh really. Nothing too serious, it just gives us a chance to show our personality and team dynamic. It’s a great way to mingle with guests and promote our activities etc. Also to get feedback about the show or even what you’ve done during the day, what they enjoyed or what they want to know more about. We get 1 and 1/2 days off a week, so when you think about it, it’s only half a day more work than at home!!
When we can/have the energy we will go to the gym after work. I know you’re probably thinking ‘are you cray cray?!’ but sometimes if we have finished early, had dinner, home by 7.30pm, it’s nice to go and do something other than just sit and chill. Otherwise it feels like all you do is work and sleep. It’s nice to get out and take your mind off work and just do something else for a change. Comment below if you’d like to see a workout vlog of the gym here which i go to! But yeah, that’s pretty much it. Sometimes i’ve helped out with the entertainment and hosted something called download, which is a red vs blue game, somedays i’ve had to be a clown and make balloon animals, which by the way, i learnt in about 2 minutes, it’s 100% going to be my new party trick! But i’m very much all about working as a team to get things done. I’ll help out when needed and i think that’s important in any industry. But when you are with the same people for 6 months i think it’s only fair that if you help them, they will help you. We are a close team and i honestly think that’s what has made my season. I have made some friends for life and i can’t imagine going home and them not being there when i want a rant or someone to chill with. Of course i am looking forward to seeing and being with my family but i’m sure it’ll be strange at first! I would recommend anyone doing a season, it’s a great time to find out who you really are, your strong points, weak points and it lets you become a stronger more confident person. I’ve learnt so much about myself so far on this season and i wouldn’t change a thing.
If you have any specific questions just comment below and i’ll get back to you asappppp! Thank you so much for reading this, i hope that if you are looking to do a season this has helped you in some way 🙂
